Children and Youth

VBS 2015

Kingston Presbyterian Christian Education for Children and Youth

Nursery – The KPC Nursery Class is offered from September to June during Sunday School (9:30 a.m. until 10:40 a.m.) and Sunday morning worship service (11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.).  Our nursery provides trained caregivers for infants and toddlers from 6 months of age, affording parents the opportunity to freely participate in the church’s Sunday programs and classes.

Sunday School – The Christian Education Commission oversees the Sunday School program for children and youth which operates from September through June. The Pre-K, Kindergarten through 2nd grade, 3rd through 5th grade, and middle school/jr. high classes meet in classrooms located on the church’s ground level from 9:30 a.m. until 10:40 a.m. on Sunday mornings. The Sr. High class meets on the 2nd floor of the Parish House.  The knowledgeable and devoted volunteers emphasize team teaching. The Sunday School also hosts several family breakfasts and special programs throughout the year.  Our inter-generational Sunday school classes allow adults and children to interact together while learning, making crafts, telling Bible stories, using rotational workshops, and much more.

Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." Matthew 19:14

Children’s Church – From September through June of each year, KPC offers Children’s Church for ages 4-7 years, during the second half of the Sunday 11:00 a.m. worship service.  Children first attend the worship service with their families and are dismissed from the sanctuary following the children’s message, where they are then directed to the balcony for structured activities, crafts and snacks - varying weekly. They return to the sanctuary after the sermon and offering. This ministry is led by adult members of the congregation and assisted by members of our teen youth group.

Vacation Bible School is offered each summer to KPC’s children and children in the community. Last year’s program, “G-Force”, coordinated by Heather Diaforli-Day and Karen Emmons, was well attended and thoroughly enjoyed by all.  Heather Diaforli-Day and Karen Emmons will lead the 2016 program “Surf Shack – Catch the Wave of God’s Amazing Love.”

“Surf Shack” will take place in the KPC Assembly room from Monday, July 11 to Saturday, July 15; 9:00am – 11:30am. Please complete the registration form and return it to the church office. “Surf Shack VBS” offers games, crafts, songs, and stories that reinforce Biblical teachings in a kid-friendly and memorable way. Confirmation Class is coordinated by our Christian Education Commission (led by elder Karen Emmons). This two year program includes 7th and 8th grades and meets on Sundays during the Sunday school hour for discussion and instruction as they prepare to make their respective Confirmations.  Each class member is also provided with individual instruction and guidance by adult sponsors from our church family who generously give their time to the class.

Youth Group
for children in the pre-K and primary grades takes place on Friday evenings from September to June from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 P.M. and is led by Karen Emmons and Pastor Sharyl.  This ministry actively engages children in the primary grades in games, crafts, and fun service learning projects.

Kingston Youth Collective – Pastor Sharyl will lead 6th to 12th grade kids from Kingston United Methodist Church and KPC monthly on Sundays from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. The Kingston Youth Collective will meet on July 24th and enjoy Raingutter Sundaes and the August 14th meeting will feature pizza.
