Notes from the Organ Bench…

This year on May 1, your choir will present a cantata of selected anthems and scripture readings. Our theme is the stories of Jesus:

The Parable of the rich man and Lazarus (also called the parable of Dives and Lazarus, from Luke 16)

The Parable of the Good Samaritan (from Luke 10)

The Parable of the Wedding Banquet (from Matthew 22).

Also, on May 8, we will (finally) conclude our choir favorite hymns with Mickey’s choice. Do you remember September 2019? We said:

“Last year (2018-2019), your choir members chose favorite anthems that we have pre- sented over the previous five years. This year (2019-2020) we will present choral ar- rangements of hymns chosen by our singers as some of their personal favorites. We will be sharing some information about these anthems and notes from the choir members as to why this hymn is a particular favorite.”

Well, March 2020 occurred and we didn’t have choir anthems for the rest of that year. This choir year of 2021-2022 saw the presentation of the favorites of Jeff and Teddy and now we have our last selection. Mickey has chosen “Hymn of Promise” by Natalie Sleeth and writes: “I like this hymn for its simple message of hope and assurance of God’s car- ing for us and all of nature, even at our end when we can look forward to the resurrection that is promised to us through Jesus Christ. Musically, too, it has a special charm and a simplicity which brings out the calming reassurance of the words.” (We appreciate Mickey’s patience and are pleased to share this anthem on Mother’s Day!)
