KPC’s music ministry has been led since 2013 by Music Director/Organist Jean Volk. Our music ministry provides many opportunities for church members and community visitors to praise the Lord and to lead God’s people in worship. Throughout the ages, Christians have expressed the words and emotions of prayer and adoration through music. Our services are a blend of contemporary songs, classical hymns, special instruments and technology. During the summer we include special music and guest artists. We welcome children, men and women of all ages and abilities to find their place in the music program.
The Adult Choir sings regularly at the 11:00 a.m. service from September to June leading worship with hymns and anthems. Our repertoire is a blend of contemporary, multi-cultural, and classical music with Biblical messages. We welcome new singers and always have extra music ready for new members. Weekly rehearsals are on Thursdays from 7:30-9:00 p.m. in the choir room.
The Handbell Choir has been an integral member of the church music ministry for over 40 years. Starting with 2 octaves of Malmark handbells in 1980, 2 more octaves of handbells were added over the years along with 3 octaves of hand chimes. The ringers are dedicated and they rehearse on scheduled Sundays from 12:20-1:20 PM. The handbell choir plays at 11:00 a.m. worship services, on Christmas Eve, Easter, and other liturgical holidays. We welcome ages 15 and up with varying musical ability. Opportunities for solo, duet and quartet work are available.
The Intergenerational Tone Chime Choir is open to all from age 8 and up. The Tone Chime Choir meets occasionally on a Sunday from 12:30 to 12:45 to practice an easy anthem and presents that anthem the following Sunday. Our Chime Choir is specifically designed for those who would like to participate in music ministry but do not read music.
Nick Robinson, a KPC member/musician directs Calling on Him, the KPC Praise Band and the New Media Ensemble, two ensembles that lead the congregation with energy and spirit on the third Sunday of each month. Calling on Him includes 5-7 band members, singing and playing an assortment of guitars, bass, drums, percussion, keyboards, and more, and leading songs by contemporary artists. In addition to playing several instruments, Nick is a talented songwriter along with Chris Emmons, guitarist and vocalist. Several of their contemporary Christian original compositions have become favorites of the congregation.
The New Media Ensemble, an improvisational electronic music ensemble is open to young people from age 8 to adults. Nick Robinson founded and leads the New Media Ensemble which uses laptops, tablets, smart phones, synthesizers, and percussion to create original and improvised ambient music for services each quarter of the year. The New Media Ensemble is a wonderful opportunity for youngsters and young adults to create spiritually uplifting music for the church using the technology they use every day in a new way.
