11/12/2020 ~Women’s Bible Study ~ Overview of Lesson 2 ~ Lamenting Together

The Women’s Bible Study group met on Thursday, November 12, from 1:30 – 2:30 PM using Zoom via computer or telephone. Pastor Sharyl Dixon led the study of the 2020-2021 Horizon Women’s Bible StudyLesson 2, Lamenting Together. Pastor Sharyl recorded this video overview of the Lesson. The description of Lesson 2 is below.

Communal laments may call upon God to address situations within a community or to change something that is pressing in on the community from the outside. Psalm 137 is an example of communal lament found in the Bible. One of the most visible kinds of contemporary lament is a public march or protest. In both examples, people unite for the purpose of speaking as a community about a situation that they believe requires change. However, a lament’s call for change can be dangerous if done publicly because change sometimes threatens people in positions of power.
