Pastor Sharyl presents this video overview of the Chapter 9, “What are These Women Doing in a Place Like This?” of our 2021-2022 Horizon Women’s Bible Study, “What My Grandmothers Taught Me”.
In the final lesson of this study, the author leads us to determine why these women – Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba, and Mary — were chosen to be included in Matthew’s genealogy of Jesus. None of them started with any power. All were on the fringes of society in one way or another. But all were strong women. By including them, the Gospel of Matthew announces that Jesus’ new family includes people from the margins – even Gentiles and women.
